Fence & Gate Installation in Channelview, TX
Wood, chain-link, wrought-iron, aluminum and vinyl fences, plus driveway gates, automatic openers and commercial fencing, built and repaired for Channelview from our Galveston base. Channelview is unincorporated, so there is no city fence code: Harris County rules apply, and they turn on whether your lot is in a floodplain. The checker below walks through it.

Mustang Fencing Services installs and repairs wood, chain-link, wrought-iron, aluminum and vinyl fences, plus driveway gates, automatic gate openers and commercial fencing, for Channelview, TX from our Galveston base at 1105 Avenue H. Channelview is an unincorporated community on the east side of Houston, in Harris County, with 45,688 residents at the 2020 census, so no city fence ordinance applies. The Harris County Engineer says no permit is required for a residential fence outside the special flood hazard area, but a fence inside the floodplain counts as development and needs a county permit. Fences on Harris County Flood Control District right-of-way or drainage easements are encroachments.

Which Harris County rules apply at your Channelview address?
Channelview has no city fence code. Pick your flood status and the details of your lot to see which county steps your fence plan runs into. It is a quick check, not a permit decision, and it does not cover deed restrictions.
General guidance, not a permit decision: Harris County makes the call (the County Engineer’s Residential Group lists (713) 274-3920). Based on the Harris County Office of the County Engineer permits FAQ, the county floodplain management regulations (version effective January 2018) and the Harris County Flood Control District encroachment program, checked November 5, 2026. The county revises its regulations, so confirm the current text.
Fence rules in unincorporated Channelview
Channelview is a census-designated place, not a city, so there is no Channelview fence ordinance and no city building department. Harris County is the government that matters, and its rule turns on flood status. The Harris County Office of the County Engineer says a permit is needed for all development in the county, and that development includes fences or fence-type walls located within the flood plain. It also answers the fence question directly: no permit is required for a residential fence outside the special flood hazard area.
To find out where your lot falls, the county points owners to its “Information on my Address” map. If the lot is in the 500-year (shaded X) floodplain, the county compares the lowest adjacent grade with the base flood elevation to decide whether the lot is handled as inside or outside the 100-year floodplain. If your fence is inside the floodplain, you apply with a site plan, and the county’s regulations say the topography survey may be waived for fences. In a floodway, a fence may be allowed only if it can be shown that base flood flow will not be impaired and base flood elevations will not rise. We read the county’s regulations version effective in 2018, and the county revises them, so confirm the current text before you apply.
The county FAQ speaks to residential fences. For a commercial or industrial fence, ask the county Permits office what applies to your lot before you order.

Drainage easements and Flood Control District land
Bayous and channels across Harris County have Harris County Flood Control District right-of-way or drainage easements along them, and your lot may back onto one. The district says a property owner who builds a fence on its right-of-way or drainage easement without authorization is encroaching and impeding access for construction and maintenance. It can order the fence removed; Texas H.B. 3782 lets it remove encroachments and potentially recoup the cost from the owner in court, and it says it is not responsible for damage to, or replacement of, items it removes.
The district’s own advice is to use an up-to-date survey that shows public easements and rights-of-way before starting. We can’t see your survey for you, so bring it to the estimate.

Deed restrictions and HOAs in Channelview
With no city code, a subdivision’s deed restrictions or homeowner association are often the only rules on height, material and placement besides the county’s flood rules. They are separate from anything the county requires, so read your restrictions or ask your association before you pick a height or a style, and get approvals in writing. We can’t see your subdivision’s documents for you, so bring them to the estimate.
