Fence & Gate Installation Across Brazoria County, TX
The same Gulf Coast crew and materials that build fences on Galveston Island now reach nine Brazoria County cities. Whose rules apply depends on whether you’re inside a city, in an HOA subdivision, or on unincorporated land – the checker below sorts it out.

Mustang Fencing Services installs and repairs fencing and gates in nine Brazoria County cities: Alvin, Angleton, Clute, Freeport, Lake Jackson, Manvel, Pearland, Sweeny and West Columbia. Who sets the rules for your fence depends on where you are. Inside a city, its own code governs height, material and setback. In a deed-restricted subdivision, the HOA’s guidelines can add to that, but Texas law says it can’t effectively ban a perimeter fence (Property Code 202.023(b)). On unincorporated land where a local stock law applies, livestock fencing needs at least a 4 ft “sufficient fence” (Agriculture Code 143.028).

Whose rules apply: city, HOA, or county
Brazoria County is a mix of incorporated cities, HOA subdivisions and unincorporated rural land, and each sets fencing rules differently. Inside a city, its building or permit office sets height, material and setback – contact them before you build. In a deed-restricted subdivision, the HOA’s recorded guidelines can add style, color or height rules on top of the city’s, but Texas Property Code 202.023(b) says an HOA can’t use that power to effectively prohibit a perimeter fence. See our HOA fence approval guide for the application process. On unincorporated land, Brazoria County permitting applies instead of a city code; where the area has adopted a local stock law, livestock fencing needs at least a “sufficient fence” under Agriculture Code 143.028.
Rural and acreage properties
Much of Brazoria County outside its nine cities is rural, with larger lots and farm or ranch properties. Field fencing, cross-fencing and perimeter fencing for acreage follow different planning than a standard residential yard – post spacing, bracing at corners and gates, and material chosen for livestock rather than privacy. Our farm & ranch fencing guide covers rail heights by animal and where a fence line needs bracing, with sources from USDA NRCS and university extension guides.
Texas law requires calling 811 before digging post holes, including fence post holes, so underground lines can be marked first; see our 811 before you dig guide.

Which rules apply to your Brazoria County property?
Answer three questions. This points you to who sets your fence rules; it isn’t legal advice, and your recorded deed restrictions or city code may add details this can’t check.
Based on Texas Property Code 202.023(b) and Texas Agriculture Code 143.001, 143.028, read October 2, 2026. Stock-law adoption varies by area; confirm with the county clerk.
