Fence & Gate Installation in La Marque, TX

Wood, vinyl, aluminum, ornamental iron and chain-link fences, plus driveway, electric and commercial gates, built and repaired for La Marque homeowners from our Galveston base. La Marque’s own Code of Ordinances sets a 7 ft height before a fence permit kicks in, a separate permit for electric fencing at any height, and its own floodplain development permit for mapped flood zones - the checker below sorts out which ones apply to your project.

The short answer

Mustang Fencing Services installs and repairs wood, vinyl, aluminum, ornamental iron and chain-link fences, plus driveway, electric and commercial gates, for La Marque, TX from our Galveston base. La Marque sits entirely within Galveston County, immediately inland of Texas City. Unlike the smaller bay-front towns on this site, La Marque has its own incorporated city code: a fence 7 ft or under needs no permit, a fence over 7 ft needs a $100 permit, an electric fence needs its own $100 permit at any height, and property in a mapped flood zone may fall under the City’s own floodplain development permit - worth confirming before you order material.

What does your La Marque fence need before you build?

Answer four questions about your project. This points you to the right City of La Marque rule before you order material; it isn't a permit decision, and an HOA's own deed restrictions can add rules this can't check.

General guidance, not a permit decision: La Marque Development Services makes the actual call, (409) 938-9219, 1130 1st Street. Based on City of La Marque Code of Ordinances Sec. 71-21, the City's Fee Schedule (Feb 2026) and Chapter 32 (Flood Damage Prevention), checked October 12, 2026.

La Marque’s fence rule is a height threshold, not a blanket ban on permits

La Marque’s Code of Ordinances, Section 71-21 (“Screening elements and fences”), caps a fence at 7 feet, measured from the adjacent grade line. Stay at or under that height and the City’s own Permits FAQ is direct: no permit is required. Go over it and a $100 fence permit applies, with the first inspection included, per the City’s Fee Schedule (February 2026). An electric fence carries its own $100 permit line item on that same fee schedule - separate from the height rule, so it applies even to a 7 ft or shorter electric run, which matters most for farm, ranch and pet-containment fencing.

The City’s FAQ points homeowners back to Sec. 71-21 itself for “other requirements to the placement of a fence” rather than listing every case in the FAQ - that’s exactly what the two rules below (corner lots and nonresidential screening) are.

Three panels. Left: a fence 7 feet or under needs no permit for the height itself, though placement rules like corner-lot sightlines still apply, per Section 71-21. Middle: a fence over 7 feet needs a 100 dollar permit with the first inspection included, per the February 2026 fee schedule. Right: an electric fence needs its own 100 dollar permit at any height, separate from the height rule, common on farm, ranch and pet-containment fencing. 7 FT OR UNDER Standard residential fence No permit required tobuild it - but placementrules (corner lots, screening)still apply. Sec. 71-21 NO PERMITfor height alone Measured from adjacent grade OVER 7 FT Taller privacy or security fence A fence permit is requiredbefore the taller sectionsgo up. Fee Schedule, Feb 2026 $100 PERMIT1st inspection included (409) 938-9219, Development Services ELECTRIC FENCE Any height Its own permit line item, separate from the heightrule above - applies evento a 7 ft or shorter run. Fee Schedule, Feb 2026 $100 PERMIT1st inspection included Common on farm/ranch and pet containment

Two independent questions decide the permit: how tall the fence is, and whether it’s electric. A short electric fence can still need a permit; a tall non-electric fence needs one for height alone.

Where the fence sits - and your flood zone - add two more checks

Height and electrification aren’t the only variables. On a corner lot, Sec. 71-21 keeps a “vision triangle” clear: nothing between 2 ft and 10 ft tall is allowed within 25 ft of the street-line intersection, so a 6-foot privacy fence that’s otherwise well under the 7 ft cap can still violate this rule if it sits inside that triangle. Where a nonresidential use - a business, storage yard or similar - sits next to a home, the shared side or rear property line has to be screened 6 to 12 ft high, taller than the ordinary residential cap, because the goal there is blocking the view of the nonresidential use rather than capping a backyard fence.

La Marque also sits inland of Texas City on ground FEMA maps into Special Flood Hazard Areas, and the City runs its own floodplain development permit ($450, plus a $150 plan review fee) for development within city limits or its extraterritorial jurisdiction, reviewed by the City Engineer, under Chapter 32 (Flood Damage Prevention, last enacted by Ordinance No. O-2014-0011). We couldn’t confirm from the published chapter text whether an ordinary residential fence is specifically treated as “development” the way a building is - so if your lot is in a mapped flood zone, we’d confirm that question with Development Services, (409) 938-9219, before ordering material, rather than assume either way.

Corner lot versus next to a nonresidential use versus a mapped flood zone. Corner lot: nothing 2 to 10 feet tall inside the vision triangle measured 25 feet back from the street-line intersection; a solid 6 foot privacy fence can block sightlines here even under the 7 foot height cap. Next to a nonresidential use: the side or rear line must be screened 6 to 12 feet high, taller than the residential cap, when a business or storage yard sits against a home. Bottom banner: in a mapped flood zone, a floodplain development permit of 450 dollars plus a 150 dollar plan review covers development in Special Flood Hazard Areas; confirm with Development Services whether a fence counts before ordering material. Placement and flood zone add two more checks CORNER LOT ✕ Nothing 2-10 ft tall insidethe vision triangle ✓ Measured 25 ft back fromthe street-line intersection A solid 6 ft privacy fence canblock sightlines here even ifit clears the 7 ft height cap Sec. 71-21 NEXT TO A NONRESIDENTIAL USE ✓ Side/rear line screened6 to 12 ft high Applies when a business, storage yard or similar usesits against a home Taller than the 7 ft residential cap -this is a different rule Sec. 71-21 IN A MAPPED FLOOD ZONE (Ch. 32, Flood Damage Prevention, Ord. Three separate questions - sightlines at a corner, screening next to a business, and flood-zone status - sit on top of the basic height rule, not instead of it.

Questions we get about this

Do you install fences and gates in La Marque, TX?
Yes. We install and repair wood, vinyl, aluminum, ornamental iron and chain-link fences, plus driveway, electric and commercial gates, for La Marque homeowners and businesses from our Galveston base, and we’ve completed a cedar privacy fence project there (see Recent work above).
Do I need a permit for a fence in La Marque?
Not for height alone if it’s 7 ft or under. Over 7 ft, a $100 fence permit is required, first inspection included (City of La Marque Code of Ordinances, Sec. 71-21; Fee Schedule, Feb 2026).
Does an electric fence need a permit even if it’s short?
Yes. The City’s fee schedule lists a separate $100 electric fence permit that applies regardless of height.
What is the corner-lot vision triangle?
A zone within 25 ft of a street-line intersection where nothing between 2 ft and 10 ft tall may be erected, placed or allowed to grow, so sightlines stay clear for drivers. A fence well under the 7 ft cap can still violate this rule if it sits inside that triangle.
What’s the rule next to a business or storage yard in La Marque?
Where a nonresidential use sits next to a residential lot, the shared side or rear property line must be screened 6 to 12 ft high - taller than the ordinary residential fence cap.
Does my La Marque fence need a floodplain permit?
Maybe. La Marque runs its own floodplain development permit ($450, plus a $150 plan review fee) for development in mapped Special Flood Hazard Areas. We could not confirm from the published ordinance whether a routine fence is treated as “development” the way a building is, so we recommend confirming with Development Services, (409) 938-9219, if your lot is in a mapped zone.
Who do I contact with La Marque permit questions?
City of La Marque Development Services, 1130 1st Street, La Marque, TX, (409) 938-9219.
